The School Hospital of FMV-ULisboa has two main objectives. The first is the practical training and in real time of the students, as well as research and development activities. The second is to provide qualified services and reference to society, either directly or through support and cooperation with industry professionals, as well as with national and international institutions.

Teachers, veterinarians, nurses, supporting staff, students and trainees are involved in the activities of the School Hospital. Usually the reception is done by students and trainees who collect the animal's clinical history, but the consultation is always made by a veterinarian, with the students help.

In the Hospital, clients have access to first opinion consultations, reference consultations and second opinion consultations, and specialties of neurology, orthopedics, internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, oncology, cardiology, geriatrics, animal behavior, exotic animals, endocrinology and infectious diseases are available, as well as various diagnostic techniques, including clinical analysis, imaging (RX, TAC, Echography), bacteriology, parasitology, pathology and cytology. The Hospital has accommodations for inpatients available throughout the year.

In relation to large animals, the School Hospital acts through external services and direct care at the Faculty facilities that has the adequate equipment to support referenced cases and hospitalization of patients. It provides services in the following areas:

- Ambulatory clinic and hospitalization of large and small ruminants.

- Ambulatory clinic and hospitalization of horses.

- Specialties consultations in the areas of Reproduction, Surgery, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
